i need your help. at the start of 2013, i moved to chicago to partner with andrew marin and The Marin Foundation.

The Marin Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to build bridges between the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community and the church – and i’ve accepted the position as the Associate Director of The Marin Foundation – doing teaching and training with churches, universities and government agencies.

100% of my salary is fundraised.

as you know, the topic of homosexuality is one of the most divisive issues in the global church today and people usually are firmly planted on one side of the rift or the other. the result is two diverse communities, often at odds.

increasing numbers in the church have expressed a desire to understand and love their LGBT neighbors, but have lacked either the knowledge or the experience to engage in the bridge-building process.

elevating the conversation and dissolving the tension between the gay and evangelical communities is something i’ve grown increasingly passionate about over the past several years. as i have engaged in conversations and friendships with members of both the gay and evangelical communities over recent years, i have become increasingly convinced that this dialogue is terribly important and much needed – for both sides of the conversation.

i believe that jesus died for everyone, and want to follow his example of bringing  that message of reconciliation and hope in christ to a community largely forgotten, ignored and hurt by the church.

because of the national and international reputation and influence already afforded The Marin Foundation, this new role gives me an opportunity to transform lives and influence the trajectory of the conversation between the church and the gay community on not only a local, but even a national and international level.

but i need your help. as is true with so many christian and non-profit organizations, staff members are responsible to raise their own funds for their salary.

i want to extend to you an opportunity to participate with me in this important work. the role i am stepping into will allow me to partner with God in transforming lives on both side of the conversation – but this undertaking is impossible without you.

thank you for taking the time to read through this, and for considering partnering with us in this important work.

we are convinced that through people like you, God will provide the resources we need to share his love and grace with those who have unfortunately heard something very different than ‘good news’ – and can work toward building bridges between the LGBT community and social, political and religious conservatives.
